Itinerary description
Day 3 of a three day loop. Could be done in one long day (~20 miles total).
Leaving Campsite 29, it's ~2.5 mile steady ascent on Maddron Bald Trail to the intersection with Snakes Den Ridge Trail. Turning right on Snakes Den Ridge Trail, it's another 0.7 mile ascent to the intersection the the Appalachian Trail. After reaching the AT, we reversed back down Snakes Den Ridge Trail, and continued the full 5+ miles to Cosby Campground parking and out. This trail was well maintained, and only had a couple rock-hop stream crossings.
