Itinerary description

Good hike connecting a few trails, that we did as a loop by including a 1.2mi finish along Wear Cove Rd. The first 4.5 miles is pretty much a steady 2100' climb.

We started at the parking lot across the river from Metcalf Bottoms Trail, which has a restroom in non-Winter months. There is also parking for a few cars right at the Metcalf Bottoms Trail Head.

Followed Metcalf Bottoms trail 0.5 mile to the Little Greenbrier School, lots of roots and mostly an easy climb.

From Little Greenbrier School, followed Little Brier Gap trail 1.5 miles to Little Greenbrier tail... though the only marker we found at this end said to "Walker Sisters Cabin". This is a steady climb all the way.

Turned right on Little Greenbrier tail, and followed it 2.4 miles up to the Laurel Falls trail intersection. Again, this is a steady climb all the way. This intersection is around 2 miles above Laurel Falls itself, which we did not go to on this hike. Instead, we turned around and hiked the 2.4 miles back down to the previous intersection.

From the intersection of Little Brier Gap/Little Greenbrier trails, continued on Little Greenbrier trail 2 more miles to Wear Cove Road. This had lots of ups and downs, but mostly down.

The remainder of the hike was ~1.2 miles along Wear Cove Road (so not trail) back to the parking area by Metcalf Bottoms.
