Tour of the Appalachian Trail, as it passes through the state of Maine (United States), from south to north, from the Horseshoe Canyon Lean-to, located a short distance from the West Branch Piscataquis River , until the intersection of the trail with the ME-15 / 6 route, 8 km. from the town of Monson, ME.
The stage corresponds to section 4.1, according to the distribution of sections of the Appalachian Trail in the official guides and maps, in Maine.
The protagonist of this stage is undoubtedly the river. Both the West Branch of the Piscataquis River, and its main course.
The route starts from the refuge located a short distance from a picturesque canyon formed over thousands of years by the west branch of the river. Between rocks and small waterfalls, the water finds its way, and the path follows this branch of the river for four more kilometers, until, just above its confluence with the main channel, the AT fords the Piscataquis River, with the help of small rocks, branches and a timely safety rope, very necessary in flood season.
It is necessary to take off your boots, put on sandals and get into the water, up to half your leg, but you are grateful for this forced bath that helps to cool your feet and does not bother you in the least (at least in the month of August, with an excellent temperature outside and water).
After crossing the Piscataquis River, the trail slightly ascends a small hill, and crosses the base or platform of the old layout of one of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad's railway lines, now abandoned and converted into a simple country road. Earth.

Ehmmm...do you mean that this section could be done riding a MTB ? https://es.wikiloc.com/rutas-outdoor/181-appalachian-trail-maine-seccion-4-1-de-horseshoe-canyon-lean-to-a-piscataquis-river-lake-hebron-19271180#wp-19271187/photo-12090950

Did you already walked the 100-Mile Wilderness? Or is this one of your future projects? https://es.wikiloc.com/rutas-outdoor/181-appalachian-trail-maine-seccion-4-1-de-horseshoe-canyon-lean-to-a-piscataquis-river-lake-hebron-19271180#wp-19271195/photo-12086993
Many compliments Pablo; a new section of your AT is into your backpack (I use this to say that a new conquest ha been done)
Do not.
No section of the Appalachian Trail can be done by bicycle. Just hiking. Exceptionally, there are small stretches that can be done on horseback, but never by bicycle or with motor vehicles. Sometimes AT crosses nearby trails, prepared for snowmobiles, forestry services, etc., but leaves quickly to enter the forest and areas not suitable for bicycles or motor vehicles.
I know some trails specifically prepared for bicycles, which cross with the AT. For example, this one located in Damascus, Virginia:

Thank you very much!
I will start the 100 miles next Wednesday.
It is not the most difficult part of the AT, but it requires careful preparation because of the difficulty in replenishing supplies for 8 or 9 days.
I will post the photos and comments in the following week https://es.wikiloc.com/rutas-outdoor/181-appalachian-trail-maine-seccion-4-1-de-horseshoe-canyon-lean-to-a-piscataquis-river-lake-hebron-19271180#wp-19271195/photo-12086993
