Co-ordinates: -13.098760, 130.783560
My Blog:
Our day in Litchfield NP was all about termites, rock holes and waterfalls. This the first swim, where the current was so strong that you could not get near the waterfall itself. Beautifully refreshing.
Short Description:
Spectacular double waterfall, set amid the monsoon forest, cascades into a swimming hole. A lookout proving a panoramic view.
Getting there:
From Darwin travel south on the Stuart Highway for 85km, before turning off to Batchelor (15km). From Batchelor a further 40km will take you to the signposted Florence Falls turn off.
It is also accessible during the Dry Season via Cox Peninsular Road (50km south of Darwin on the Stuart Highway) and then Litchfield Park Road for 85km, which has a 11km unsealed section.
Maps:
None found.
Route/Trail notes:
From the car park, take the well worn trail down to the lookout, before descending the 160 steps to cross Florence Creek and turning left to access the plunge pool. Return by the same route or take the 1km Shady Creek Walk back to avoid the steps.
Permits/Costs:
None.
Other References/Comments:
Litchfield NP has a whole range of walks and wonders to keep you occupied for days, as well as a number of campsites to overnight. Further details can be obtained from Litchfield National Park .
