My Blog:
By far our best walk of the day. Just sitting on top of The Governor, with a sheer drop off in front of you and an outlook across the northern part of Mount Kaputar NP to die for.
Short Description:
This return track takes you onto the peak of a large volcanic plug, with a drop away backdrop that takes your breath away. From here you overlook the northern wilderness area of Mount Kaputar National Park.
Getting there:
From Narrabri, take Old Gunnedah Road south and after about 2.5km, turn left onto Kaputar Road. Follow Kaputar Road for 27km to the entrance of Mount Kaputar National Park. The road from the park entrance is a steep, single lane road and caravans are not permitted.
You’ll find The Governor car park about 17km along on the left.

Route/Trail notes:
From the car park, the first 300m is sealed and wheel chair accessible to the lookout. From here the track continues and walkers can scramble up a marked route to the top of The Governor and back.
Permits/Costs:
None.
Other References/Comments:
With so many bushwalking options here and a length drive in, why not take advantage of the excellent camping facilities at Bark Hut or Dawsons Spring.
