Tour of the Appalachian Trail ( Appalachian Trail ), as it passes through the state of Vermont (United States), going from south to north, from the Goddard Shelter, very close to the top of Glastenbury Mountain, to the intersection from the trail to Stratton-Arlington Road, all within Green Mountain National Forest.
The stage corresponds to the first part of section 8 of the Appalachian Trail, according to the official distribution of stages of this trail in the state of Vermont, and also coincides in its layout with that of a section of the Long Trail, which is the trail Oldest long-haul train in the United States, created between 1910 and 1930, with a total length of 438 km. (always through the state of Vermont), from the border of this state with Massachusetts, in the vicinity of the town of Williamstown, MA, to very close to the border with Canada, in North Troy, Vermont.
STAGE COMMENT
From the Goddard Shelter, almost on the edge of the Glastenbury Wilderness protected natural area, the trail completely covered in snow, due to the heavy snowfall of the afternoon and night before, begins a short climb to the top of Glastenbury Mountain (1,142 m. / 3,748 ft), where an old forest watchtower is located, currently used as a watchtower and a privileged viewpoint of the entire region.
The views from this observation tower are truly spectacular, and from that point, the rest of the itinerary follows a descent profile, with the occasional steep slope.
Despite the difficulty of the snow, which covers the trail and forces you to be very attentive to the white signaling beacons, the forest offers a beautiful landscape, with streams, small beaver reservoirs and lakes.

jajaja!... No se veía nada. Nos sorprendió en el camino una fuerte nevada, no prevista por el servicio meteorológico. Había que intuir o adivinar por dónde iba el sendero. Una etapa de marcha muy dura, pero muy bonita e interesante. :-)
