Tour of the Appalachian Trail, as it passes through the state of North Carolina (United States), in a south to north direction, from the Wesser Bald Shelter, to the intersection of the trail with the Nantahala River, always inside the Nantahala National Forest .
The stage corresponds to the first part of section 6, according to the official distribution of sections of the Appalachian Trail, in its route through Georgia and North Carolina.
Initially scheduled for a 16.30-mile run, from the Wayah Shelter to the Nantahala River, the weather announcement of heavy rain and thunderstorms for this day forced us to change plans, considerably extending the previous day's march, and reducing the march of this day, in order to conclude this stage as early as possible.
On this occasion, the meteorologists were not mistaken, and we were able to reach a safe place before the downpour and storm.
Reduced the stage to the final part, the route is easy, since it runs continuously down towards the valley.
The highlight of this section is undoubtedly the one located almost at the beginning of the descent down the slope of Wesser Bald, in the place known as Jump-off lookout (4,000 feet), which offers a spectacular panoramic view, followed by an entertaining Lots of small crags and rocks on the trail.

Almost at the height of the Nantahala River, is the A. Rufus Morgan Shelter, a small refuge with capacity for six people.
At the end of the trail (AT mile 137.10, from Springer, Georgia), the trail crosses US-19 / US-74 and crosses the Nantahala River via a bridge that connects to the magnificent facilities of the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC ) , located on both shores.

In this place there is a varied leisure and sports offer, which brings together thousands of visitors and users every season. The facilities for aquatic and outdoor sports (kayak, canoe, rafting, etc.) are particularly appreciated, with the participation of numerous clubs that have various athletes and Olympic medalists to their credit.
Naturally, the passage of the Appalachian Trail through this place allows you to enjoy, at least for a few hours, not only some of these activities, but also the restaurant complex, supermarket, sporting goods store, post office, free custody service of parcels, and of course, accommodation in individual or shared cabins, kitchen, showers and many other services.
Due to the beautiful environment in which these facilities are located, and for the extraordinary welcome, sympathy and support with which employees and visitors receive all the "hikers" who travel the Appalachian Trail, Nantahala Outdoor Center is, by merit its own, an obligatory stop and meeting point for almost all hikers.

!Congratulations!
