Itinerary description
118) Maleny Trail - 7th May 2017 - NEW

Co-ordinates: -26.758590, 152.853610
Blog:
I stumbled on this trail by accident, as there was no signage in town at the bridge. Being the good bushwalker I am, I just followed the path along the boardwalk and ended up on a 5.5km interesting country walk. Funnily, I had run a X-country at the Golf Club in the morning and ended up circumventing the course on the walk in the afternoon. Given the monies that have been spent on this trail by Council, there is very little detail anywhere to promote it and once you get to the old farmhouse at the Golf Club there is no details on how you get back to town. I bashed across a field down to the museum to get back.
Short Description:
A leisurely walk along Obi Obi Creek from the boardwalk in town to the Golf Club and back, that passes the sculptured 'Peace in the Trees', '5th Light Horse Regiment Beersheba Museum', 'Platypus Viewing Area', 'Southern Wetlands' and historical buildings of the once 'Fairview Dairy Farm'.
Getting there:
Head to Maleny on the southern end of the Blackall. Park in town and head to the bridge where this walk begins.
Maps:
Maleny Trail
Route/Trail notes:
From the bridge over Obo Obi Creek, take the boardwalk north and onto the concrete pathway. This first area is what can only be described as 'manicured', with the 'Peace in the Trees' sculptures and the abundance of newly planted trees. Take a right at the Museum, down to the Platypus viewing and along to the south of the Golf Course. Head up to the historic farm buildings and then back down Porters Lane to the museum and rejoin the pathway into town. There are plenty of interpretive signs along the way.
Permits/Costs:
None.
Other References/Comments:
Technically the Maleny Trail starts at the Showground, along 'Obi Boardwalk' into town (600m each way), but this area is very uninspiring.
From the far end of this walk, there is a link through to Gardner's Falls if you fancy a swim.
