La commune voisine de Mareuil se trouve sur un bas plateau calcaire datant du Portlandien. Cette subdivision du Jurassique Supérieur (152.1 millions d'années à 145 millions d'années) se caractérise par des calcaires et grès identique à ceux de l'île de Portland en Angleterre.
Note historique
Au Moyen-Age, puis sous l' Ancien Régime, Mareuil est le centre d'une seigneurie appartenant à la famille Hornic puis à la famille Beaupoil.
A visiter: cluzeaux situés sous le bourg

Flore: fragon faux-houx, chêne sessile, prunellier, fougère aigle, coquelicot, pissenlit, figuier, vigne, scolopendre, buis, cirse commun, chicorée sauvage
Faune: corneille noire, pigeon-ramier, merle noir
