⇒ Link to the next stage: 104 - APPALACHIAN TRAIL - PENNSYLVANIA - Section 1 - From Wind Gap to Kirkridge Shelter and Delaware Water Gap
Tour of section 2.1 of the Appalachian Trail (Appalachian Trail), passing through the state of Pennsylvania (United States), from south to north. From mile AT 1262.4, corresponding to the crossing of Blue Mountain Road with the trail, in Little Gap, to mile AT 1277.8, in Wind Gap. Measures always from Springer, Georgia.
The entire route runs through the crest of Blue Mountain, through State Game Lands No. 168, about 1,500 feet high, with a very flat profile, and with hardly any unevenness to overcome. Even the firm of the path becomes much less rocky and rugged than is usual in this area of Pennsylvania.
Along the way there are several points with unobstructed views over the surrounding valleys, to the north and south. A road with poor pavement is also crossed, in Smith Gap, and we will find the small shelter Leroy Smith Shelter, which has space for six people, fire ring and latrine.
Already in the final section of the tour, we find two interesting viewpoints, the first one, Hahn´s Lookout. with magnificent views to the south, with the neighborhood of Wind Gap and the South Mountain in the distance; and the second, very close to the previous one, Lookout Rock, with views to the north (the town of Saylorsburg and Poconos in the distance and the Aquashicola Creek, in the Chestnut Valley, in the foreground).
From these two points, the AT descends rapidly from the mountainous ridge, towards Wind Gap, through a rocky path, at the beginning, and much more gradual and comfortable at its end.
