Date : 2023.02.21
Duration on paper : 06h51 (winter hiking)
Duration real with breaks : 05h19
Difficulty for me : T2
Physical : average
Technical : easy
Fear : null
Average Slope : +13.9% -11.9% (-13% max recommended)
Attendance ascent/summit/descent : null/extreme/low
Comment : discovering the area, artificial snow and ski lifts still working while I was walking on green grass was very strange and not that great to be honest, I do not recommend the Mont d'Or for average or advanced hikers it's not only very easy but with cable cars going up all year long be ot for ski, hiking or mountain bike I feel like hikers have lost the battle here, only for casual hikers or elderly people ><
The descent I took is a mountain bike track you won't be able to descend on it in summer.
The Whole area under Mont d'Or was also very muddy because of the melting snow.
I was blocked at Troupézy by the artificial snow slope and ski lift taking all the space without a walkable path had to make a big detour pretty annoying.
The Swiss side on the other hand was very nice because it has no machinery you're better off as a hiker to park at Vallorbe and make a loop NW of the town maybe cabane du mont d'or -> combe barathoux something like that, you can stretch to Mont d'Or summit but avoid le Morond area even as a french you're better off crossing the border and hiking above Ballaigues or further east at le Suchet, better views more nature less people.
P.S. nothing against France plenty of great hikes at the french/swiss border but not on a fully commercialized mountain like this one.
