Itinerary description
1) Kulki Boardwalk - 17th September 2001
Return Distance 0.6km, Max Elevation 65m, Climb 20m, Time 0.25hr, Level - Easy - Pops
Co-ordinates: -16.077430, 145.470150
My Blog:
My first full day in Australia and I come across this wonderful place where the rainforest meets the ocean and I wonder why, with all this beach, is nobody in the water? Naively, at that time, I had no appreciation of what lurks in the water around here, till I saw the sign 'crocodiles abound here'!
Short Description:
Kulki day-use area has a boardwalk leading from the picnic area to a viewing platform overlooking the ocean and beach. A short walk from the Kulki car park takes you to beautiful Myall Beach. Toilets and picnic tables are provided.
Getting There:
Travel 104 km north of Cairns on the Captain Cook Highway to the Daintree River crossing. The ferry operates 6.00 am–midnight every day.
Beyond the ferry, conventional two-wheel-drive vehicle access is possible as far as Cape Tribulation, although high clearance is useful and caravans are not recommended. The road through this section of the park is narrow and winding. Drivers should keep left and watch for wildlife, particularly cassowaries.
Maps:
Cape Tribulation
Route/Trail Notes:
This is a very short and somewhat steep paved walk to a look out over the beach with the rainforest as a backdrop. There are options to walk onto the beach from this path.
Permits/Costs:
None.
