An easy walk through the boreal forest at Carl E Wynn Nature Center that allows you to discover the flora of the area and enjoy spectacular views of Kachemak Bay.
The Carl E Wynn Nature Center is located in the upper area of Homer, in a large protected area of forest, where we can see many species of flowers, trees and birds. You could also see some mammals, but we only saw their tracks, we were not lucky enough to see them. To access you have to pay a fee of about $8 per person, for educational programs and to continue their conservation work.
We begin the tour in the center's parking lot, following a self-guided path with signs of the most significant species, although with the entrance they also leave you some pamphlets with flowers and birds so that you can discover them along the way. Part of the trail goes along walkways through the boreal forest, opening up large clearings full of flowers.
After about 2.5 km we cross the road and take a detour to the right that goes down steeply along a path. We go down through the forest until we reach an overlook with a bench, where you can rest while enjoying the good views of Kachemak Bay and the mountains and glaciers of Kachemak State Park. We go back up almost to the road and continue along the path again to the entrance of the center.
