Circular route through Talkeetna Lakes Park passing Lakes X, Y and Z, through a beautiful spruce forest.
We left the car in the parking lot that, as in almost all parks in Alaska, has a mailbox where you can pay, leaving the cash in an envelope. In June 2022 the price is $5 per day.
We left the car park on a well-marked path that leads to the shore of Lake X. The path skirts the lake's edge through a pretty spruce forest, although there are now quite a few trees dead from a beetle infestation.
After approximately 1.0 km the path moves away from the shore of Lake X and we leave the turnoff for the circular Lake Z to the right. Some 300m further on, shortly after, we follow a short detour to get closer to Lake Z. We continue along the circular path of Lake X, which first rises slightly and moves away from the lake, but then goes down, reaching the shore again at the northern end of the lake. lake.
From here the trail follows the shoreline again, approaching Lake Y and passing another small lake before reaching the parking lot again.
