Itinerary description
This is the first part of a series describing my hike from Bogova to Gjirokastra.
Most of the single parts can also be hiked separately when you can manage the transportation.
Hiking from Bogova along the river to the waterfall (and maybe a little further)
I went by bus from Tirana (started at 11:00 am) to Bogova and was dropped of opposite of the little bar and supermarket at 03:40 pm. After the long drive despite the break in Berat I bought a snack, filled my bottles at the well right there and started the hike.
First I went along the road, after ~840 meters I turned right to follow the track which turns into a path. If you miss the next junction to the right you will reach a little fish farm and have to look how to get back on the way which is a little south from there - as I did.
Following the path I walked along a very green valley which now and then gave glimpses on barren hillsides. There are also some big pipelines, which sometimes cross the path.
I had to cross the river several times. For the water was low and there were stones at the fords my my shoes remained dry.
After having walked ~2,8 km from the main road I arrived at the waterfall and made a lot of pictures. I didn't bother to take a little bath since I wanted to hike a little more.
I went back to the clearance next to the waterfall and followed the steep path upwards. Near the building I had to fight off a really savage dog whose owner showed me the way.
I crossed the small canyon with no water flowing and followed the visible path straight until until I realized I had to turn around since this wasn't really the direction I wanted to take.
So I crossed the meadow and walked its border to the wood where I assumed "my" path should go along and indeed found it. After hiking it for 200 meters I had to cross a stream. 100 m further I realized I wouldn't find any better camping ground then the meadow I had crossed since the sun was setting already.
So I walked back and found a suitable place on the northern edge of the meadow. The stream was suitable to wash the clothes and myself.
