Itinerary description

I decided to get into offroad cycling to cover more distance. If necessary, or if I see a wadi I want to explore, I hide the bike and go on foot. A bit risky maybe but it's the only way of covering the distance to get to remote massifs and mountain ranges. So far, I have had no issues regarding hiding the bike There are not exactly many people wanering around on foot here.

The main issue with cycling is punctures. Be sure to take at least 3 spare innertubes and a good puncture kit. I bought what are said to be very good tyres (Continental Cross), but I am not impressed at all so far compared to tyres I use in the UK. Maybe it is the terrain - the desert is littered with vegetation which has thorns. I don't know but I will bring back from the UK Armadillo tyres and take it from there because the number of punctures is pretty disruptive and no fun at all.

This ride-hike is pleasant and the camping spot is a lovely valley. There are 4WD tracks but I saw no-one over 2 days. There are high peaks and wadis to explore if you like but I went for some peace and quiet and reading. In a few places I pushed-dragged-carried the bike for shortcuts.
