Day 13 of the Road Trip in USA.
We woke up early in Page, a very young city founded in 1957 for the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam. Its location seemed quite interesting because there are many tourist attractions nearby, although there is not much to do in the city itself.
Our intention is to take advantage of the day and at 7:00 am we stand at the local aerodrome to ask for flights in airplanes and helicopters. We wanted to go by helicopter to Monument Valley, descend and return ... but only offer a plane flight without descent :-( They also warn us that we should do it soon since strong winds are expected throughout the day.
Determined to get to Monument Valley we did not think about it and booked our flight at 8:30.
It was my first time in a plane and I had not taken into account a few basic physical and aerodynamic concepts. So as soon as we take off more than 20m from the ground and the gadget moves and reacts more aggressively than a plane I begin to ask if the decision has been right.
In general, I will say yes. Not that they were bad conditions, according to the "normal" pilot, but for me he was approaching nuclear panic.
The flight, very nice, allows us to fly among others, Horseshoe Bend, Mount Navajo (its 3000m high caused turbulence that I will not easily forget), all the canyons that reach the Lake Powell (artificial, by the way) and finally, Monument Valley . The immensity of the landscape and its extension leave us speechless. Everything here seems huge.
It's a shame we could not get there on foot to Monument Valley, but our road trip does not stop and I'm tired of doing so many kilometers by car ...
