Itinerary description
Don’t be fooled by it’s only 130km. I almost ran out of fuel. I started with full tank and filled 6 litres on Omkoi – the tank has 6.7 litres.
Only the very first and very last bit is paved. The central part, where the track loops toward South is demanding. It’s steep and stony. It took me the whole day. There are no shops on the way. Take enough water and food along. Better if you also have some extra petrol.
Note of care for these NFT-Series tracks
I did these on a stock Honda CRF250L with 50/50 tyres in the dry season, with luggage. I’m not a extreme offroad rider but I keep up with my friends who do hard stuff, I’m just slower.
Most of the tracks in this series are easy in the dry season. However I came across some quite difficult bits with very steep inclines and 20-30 cm deep dust. Dust not soil. Dust like talcum powder. Other harder bits where stony.
Should you want to do these tracks in the rainy season, make sure you are an experienced offroad rider, with proper offroad tyres and if you use a CRF250L make sure you have shorter transmission than stock. The stock gear ratio spacing of the CRF250L sucks big time and will cause you problems.
I also recommend riding through villages at walking speed and respectfully great locals! They have a harder life than yours and you’re invading their peaceful life.
Also remember that these dirt roads are actual roads. In other words there is oncoming traffic and that’s fully loaded 4x4 pick ups.
