Itinerary description

I had planned to start the dirt road ride further South, starting from the number 12 Tak-Mae Sot highway, but where it starts there is a barrier and a guard: no go! Don’t bother that bit, go straight North from Tak.
This is the beginning. The first part is all tarmac, than, when leaving the beautiful 1175 in Ban Nong Luang, it’s concrete until the river (bridge). Until the next bridge it’s an easy, scenic dirt road. After the next time you cross this river there is the first dusty incline. (I missed the bridge at my first attempt).
The next 15-20km have several of these dusty inclines, up and down.
Then after about 5-6km tarmac there is a nice 15km country side dirt road and then a mix of concrete and dirt until Mae Tan.

Note of care for these NFT-Series tracks

I did these on a stock Honda CRF250L with 50/50 tyres in the dry season, with luggage. I’m not a extreme offroad rider but I keep up with my friends who do hard stuff, I’m just slower.
Most of the tracks in this series are easy in the dry season. However I came across some quite difficult bits with very steep inclines and 20-30 cm deep dust. Dust not soil. Dust like talcum powder. Other harder bits where stony.
Should you want to do these tracks in the rainy season, make sure you are an experienced offroad rider, with proper offroad tyres and if you use a CRF250L make sure you have shorter transmission than stock. The stock gear ratio spacing of the CRF250L sucks big time and will cause you problems.
I also recommend riding through villages at walking speed and respectfully great locals! They have a harder life than yours and you’re invading their peaceful life.
Also remember that these dirt roads are actual roads. In other words there is oncoming traffic and that’s fully loaded 4x4 pick ups.
