Itinerary description

We couldn’t leave Edinburgh without going up to Arthur’s Seat, we followed the bus route mostly on cycle paths up from Portobello to Holyrood park and entered on a circular high road. We had to dismount and hike up a steep grassy hill to the top of Arthur’s Seat, but the views at the top were spectacular across Edinburgh city. Bikes are not allowed off-road on the park unfortunately. It wasn’t even 10 am and there were loads of people already hiking up from all directions. We hiked back down and continued until we joined the national cycle route 1 towards Musselburgh. Great tracks and we hardly saw any main roads until we got back to Portobello.
