Itinerary description
This tour leads from Kalterberherg to the pretty town of Malmedy and back. A mountainbike is required.
Highlights include the downhill run on the ski slopes of Ovivat, followed by a long and interesting run through the Bayehon and Warche valleys.
Several trails are possible down the ski slope; we just went down the grass. Experts may find other interesting trails; we are not sure whether the ski lifts will be open in summer for those doing multiple runs on their bikes.
At the lower end of the slope, the trail continues downhill for about 10 kilometers, with several fords through the Bayehon stream. At some points you may need to push your bike across small bridges; this will depend very much on the water level and your appetite for wet feet.
The central place in Malmedy is a good place for a prolonged rest - keep in mind that you are at the lowest elevation of the entire trail, and that from hereon there will be a lot of steady uphill driving. For those with an ebike, it will not matter much. The return follows in part the RAVeL, but also takes some shortcut in Waimes. One of those shortcuts is the Schweineberg, which is not an official name but lingo of the Kalterherberger bikers - a short but steep hill. A little on, you will be in Robertville, from here it is a pleasant ride back to Kalterherberg.
