Itinerary description
Long ride from Zarouchla village back to Patras. This time via skicenter of Kalavryta, an then in direction to Kleitoria and Road 111 (old national road Patras - Tripoli).
First section is quick descent from Zarouchla to intersection for skicenter. Then all the way up from ~900m altitude to ~1700m with very demanding grades. First part of downhill was on the road down to Kalavryta (fresh new asphalt!!! :-D), but then left towards Ano/Kato Lousi, Lake Caves and Kleitoria. Very fast section first with steep grades and then nice and pleasant ~-1%. The Lake Caves are closed now due to COVID-19, which resulted in zero traffic for about 40km, all the way until Kleitoria! Then I followed the road towards Tripoli instead of climbing in direction to Aroania village. The later would be much nicer route, but I would run out of day hours in such a long ride. So after few kilometers I reached Road 111 and turned right towards Tripotamia, Lampeia and Patra of course. Unluckly, I had head wind for another 40-50km! and was struggling to keep 24-26kmh :-( I did a quick stop in both Tripotamia and Panopoulos villages to restore some calories and stretch my back a bit. After Panopoulos, the wind became more of side one and I managed to do last 55km in less then 2 h!! Overall ~7h of moving time and 7:30h in total.
Great views, great route!
