Itinerary description
Cross-bike rental at starting waypoint (GIANT brand). Spectacular seafront bike trip, a few hill sections. Mostly along wide shoulder of moderately busy highway. Shoulders become narrower at the turnaround waypoint at east end, where road becomes two-lane, & more windy.
Pull-outs and beach parks provide views of surfers and other activity along the south shore.
On return to Waikiki, the route passes close to the entrance to Diamond Head Park. Could extend route by going through the tunnel into the crater of Diamond Head Park and hiking up to crater rim for the view to the west over Waikiki. (Rental bike came with U-lock)
Back in town, the track continues to the west side of the Waikiki hotel and beach strip. Can walk bike along trails past hotel pools and beaches, returned to bike rental riding along main shopping street.

Turn-around
rugged south coast, with a prominent volcanic cone. The highway narrows here, becomes more windy, shoulders narrow. Decided this is a good turnaround point rather than continue farther East.
