Itinerary description

---- NOT a regular biking/hiking track ---- Request for more info ------ See below ----

Recently, I cycled near Benevento and Arpaia. For this purpose, I downloaded stage 13 and 14 of the Via Francigene Nel Sud from the official site: Stage 13 and
Stage 14.

While on the trail, I noticed the official signs of the road and was happy to see them. However, when I got to a point, the sign was pointing in the opposite direction of the GPS trail. I figured maybe I have made a mistake, got an old track or from a different website or something like that.

Many kilometers later, I came across the signs again but the same thing happened again.

Once I got home, I double checked my GPS source and confirmed that I had indeed the official track.

So, I did some investigation using Google Street View and have worked out quite a bit of track according to the road sign, versus the track according to the website.

The difference are not just cosmetic:
- According to the road signs, the track from Arpia to Montesarchio runs via Airola (north of SS7
- According to the website, the track from Arpia to Montesarchio runs via San Cosma (sout of SS7)

When trying to trace the track, I frequently run into the issue that I can't find all road signs. I've spend hours looking for road signs between Airola and the outskirts of Montesarchio. (See the 2 way points and the straight line between them)

A similar situation between Apollosa and Masseria Quarantiello (see the attached photo). For no apparent reason, the road takes a completely different road.

Either track is fine, but how can the site be promoting one track and put road signs on a rather different track? From what I see now, the road signs are not very consistent and relying on them will more likely get someone lost or very off track. Using a GPS (or the maps from the site) still seems the best guide.

In the past, I've written to the site managers about other problems with the track, but never got an answer, so I decided to publish this track here to request input from you: Have you noticed this also on other sections of the Via Francigene? Why the difference? What is the new track?

Please comments on this track and if you have found road signs, near this trail, please let me know and I'll continue to trace the track further.
