Itinerary description
One of the most scenic cycling trails I have done. It takes you from Downtown Anchorage to Kincaid Park. You can go back the same way, or make a detour and ride around the International Airport and through a small airport both with a gravel runway and lake for floatplanes.
I chose that option and I loved it! It was fantastic to drive through the active airport, see so many different planes and watch them take off and land.
That path takes you along regular roads, but they are not the main ones and the traffic is very small. There is plenty of nature everywhere and you also get a chance to stop for a beer at a lakefront if you feel like.
The whole trip took me 4h. I was driving in a moderate pace, stopping a lot to take pictures and having a 30min lunch break (there are plenty of picnic spots along the way, so take something with you to enjoy some snacks in the nature - just remember to be vigilant and look out for wildlife).
I also chose to stop at New Sagaya’s City Market, a small supermarket (a lot like Wholefoods) with a buffet-style, reasonably-priced prepared food. It was my lunch break.
