Itinerary description

This bike ride is mostly on the Trans Canada Trail (from Lindsay to Uxbridge) but I left the trail at the north end of Uxbridge and continued on streets, highways and back roads to finish the ride at the entrance to my subdivision in Stouffville. There is parking at either end, a small lot at the old jail/courthouse in Lindsay. And in Stouffville the finish is right beside a golf course or alternatively the Lincolnville GO Station is just south on tenth line. The ride would be easier in the opposite direction (elevation and wind direction).

The TCT portion is well signed, in good condition and the trail is constructed of crushed limestone for a pretty good surface. The homes of Lindsay give way to farmer's fields with the occasional cover of small woodlands. Nearing the intersection with highways #7 and #12 (about 30 km in) a large marsh predominates for a dozen or more kilometers. A millennia ago it was most likely a very large lake. Lots of wildlife in the area and only occasionally came across other hikers/bikers.

Uxbridge has done a nice job with their trestle over the river and all of the river and stream crossings had sturdy bridges (you will cross maybe 40 in total). The final section back to my neighbourhood was much hillier than the gradual changes that are typical with a re-cycled railway bed.

I highlighted some of the intersections as waypoints, but overall the TCT path is very straight and easy to follow all the way to Uxbridge (no turns required). The scenery was nothing special but it was nice to see some very familiar terrain from something other than a car.

I rode south on Adelaide Street and just after Mary Street took a very narrow path for a block over to where the TCT starts.

Lindsay is behind you, one of the first intersections you come to is Elm Tree Road. The signage at intersections is great and it displays how far you have come and how far it is to the next intersection.

Some picnic tables, signage and also a map. Looks like things are done right in Little Britain!

Intersection with Simcoe Street also known as #2. As always.... straight ahead.

The area probably was a very large lake at one time. Numerous bridges help you make it through the marsh.
