Itinerary description
At the start is a convenient gravel parking directly off the highway. You directly access the cycle path on the Sieg river dyke and follow it along the Sieg all the way to Siegburg. Here you leave the cycle path and go to the center of Siegburg with a short stretch of semi-paved cycling path (Leinpfad along the Siegburger Muhlengraben). Here you climb to the abbey (Abtei St. Michael) on top of the Michelsberg until you cannot go any further. You return to the Markt and then follow a cobblestoned road. You cycle around the Michelsberg through a park, and then leave the town towards the cycling route along the Sieg. Shortly after getting back to this cycling path, it turns semi-paved for 4 km, until you reach Hennef. A short while after Hennef there is a second semi-paved stretch of 600 meters. You follow the Sieg cycling track a bit further and then leave the Sieg to climb to Burg Blankenburg. The last dead-end stretch includes some gravel As the castle is only open from 10, I did not get a look inside and continued through the town of Blankenberg with nice views, walls, towers and a lot of timber-framed houses. From Blankenberg you continue to Sücherscheid and then on to Uckerath. After Uckerath you continue on quiet roads going up and down, with wide views, past Hanfmühle and Hanf. Near Willmeroth, you pass a basalt quarry and then descend to Quirrenbach. A climb brings you to Hovel, Aegidienberg and Himberg. Here you descend towards Bad Honnef on the L144. After about 3 km you leave the main road and continue on a quiet forest road forbidden for cars and climb to the Mittelberg. You then descend on the forest road to Bad Honnef. Through Bad Honnef you descend to the Rhein, which has branched here around island Grafenwerth. You follow the Rhein on a cycling path with views of Drachenfels to Königswinter. This cycling path can by quite busy and you may have to wait for a train. In Königswinter you leave the Rhein and take a road to the top of Drachenfels, with views of Drachenburg on the way. There is also a mountain train to the top here, which you cross close to the top. The views from the top are great. There is a restaurant and a view of the castle ruins a bit further up. You descend back to the L331 and follow this a bit uphill to the entrance road to Petersberg. This is a toll road, but free for cyclists. On the top is a hotel and official guest house of the German government, as well as a chapel, a Biergarten and great views. Also from this hill, you take the same way back to the L331, but as you leave the toll road there is a small forest road to your left that takes you up through the forest to a restaurant on the top. From here you descend to the L268, which takes you past a monastery ruins to Niederdollendorf. Here, a ferry takes you across the Rhein to Bad Godesberg. You climb to the Godesburg, a dead-end road again, descend, and ascend into the forest Kattenforst. On car-free forest roads you transit the forest to Röttgen. You follow and cross the Engelsbach valley, and enter Bonn. Via the Poppelsdorfer Allee you cycle towards the center. In the center you make a short touristic tour via Martinsplatz, Münsterplatz and the Markt, and the continue to the Rhein. You follow the big river on cycling paths to Graurheindorf, and then on to the ferry to Mondorf. The Sieg flows into the Rhein just upstream of Mondorf. After leaving the ferry, you follow an old Sieg branch, partly on 600 m semi-paved cycling path, and then continue to the bridge across the Sieg, which is near your starting point.
