Itinerary description

Mixed road and gravel trail all the way from the center of Šid to Novi Sad. It starts from the church near the town center of Šid and goes all the way by Sotsko Lake and uphill to the border crossing between Serbia and Croatia. At the border, the wait time is minimal. From there, the trail goes in most parts downhill to Ilok. In Ilok I have been exploring the Ilok Fortress with the Catholic church within it and have been using pedestrian stairs to come down the fortress so you may want to avoid that part and use public roads instead. Then once again you cross the border between Croatia and Serbia and use the "25. maj" bridge over the Danube for Bačka Palanka where I further explored the town, its church and town's public beach.

From there you use partly the EuroVelo 6 cycling route which is mostly gravel until some 5 km section of the highway and then enter the EuroVelo 6 route once again near Čelarevo. There is a quite nice looking beach there where you can rest and enjoy the view on the Danube.

Further to Novi Sad, the route is asphalted (some 30 km) and you get to really enjoy it. When approaching Futog and Novi Sad, there may be a lot of pedestrians so be prepared for slowing down on numerous occasions and warning the pedestrians of your coming. I missed a turn to Ribarsko ostrvo but explored it and joined the urban bicycle trails of Novi Sad all the way to the city center where the trail ends. Beautiful day, good cycling with a couple of rests along the road.
