Itinerary description
The most beautiful scenary around! If you've never been to Browns Bay, this route is a must.
Directions:
Shore rd has some cycle paths but the one right by the water is shared with hundreds of dog-walkers so you'll get a nice view in exchange for speed (which comes to zero even at times). The road is very busy all the way to Carrickfergus and then it quiets down a little but once you get to Islandmagee and Browns Bay it's really quiet except, I guess, during holiday season (I went in spring on a weekday... sun shining)
It's all well signposted so you can't miss it. Just follow "Scenic route" signs once passed Whitehead.
I chose to go down Millbay rd instead of straight to Browns Bay. It's worth it! but all roads will lead eventually to the Bay where you can have a picnic and a snooze!! it's THAT nice.
*Gobbins rd is not smooth and there is some loose gravel at times. If you want to ride smooth and fast, I suggest you bypass and take Middle Road (B150). But the view of the Atlantic is quite impresive if you don't mind the icky road.
Dificulty:
It's mostly flat so I've given it a "Moderate" rating. The length of it means you gotta pack some food and tools and be prepared for punctures ads stuff... nothing out of the ordinary (watch youtube's GCN channel for tips).
There are a couple of climbs but the highest you get is 100 mts.
Duration:
It really only takes 3 hours at a regular pace if you don't stop (I stopped for photos a lot and at the beach for lunch).
Other:
Take your bathing suit HAHA
