Itinerary description

This cycle tour includes quite a lot of climbs and was inspired by the route published on Climbfinder: https://climbfinder.com/nl/routes/sprimont-rideux-sprimont. Due to a bridge between Izier and Villers-Sainte-Gertrude being closed, the route was slightly diverted. The route starts at a carpool parking near Sprimont directly off the highway. The foot of all climbs are marked with waypoints, and the waypoints have links to the climbs on Climbfinder. You can find something to eat and drink in Remouchamps, Aywaille, Heyd (not convenient, in the middle of a climb), Harzé, slightly off-route in the brewery Elfique in the Amblève valley and in Pont-de-Sçay. The route is suited for the road bike, although there are some stretches with mediocre asphalt. The route is marked difficult due to the total ascent in combination with the length, but apart from the Redoute, the Rideux North, Roche-à-Frène and Chambralles the climbs are not too difficult.
From the start you cycle to Cornemont and then descend via Hotcamps to Remouchamps. Here starts the famous climb of Côte de la Redoute starts, a steep climb. From the top you continue to Florzé and then descend to Aywaille. You follow the main road N30 until the start of the beautiful climb Côte de Niaster. This is a quiet climb on good and winding asphalt. At the top you continue towards Havelange, and then descend through Lorcé to the foot of the Côte de Bru. This climb through the forest is nice and quiet, and not well-known. From the top you continue to Le Grand Trixhe and then on to Izier going slightly up and down only. From Izier, the climbfinder route would descend to Villers-Sainte-Gertrude, and I did, but the bridge of the Ruisseau de Pont le Prètre was gone, and I climbed back to Izier (this part I deleted from the route). From Izier I descended through Ozo to the Aisne valley. After a short stretch along the river the Col du Rideux North climb starts. The climb starts steep, levels off a bit before Heyd, and then continues with irregular grade to the top in the forest. You descend back to the Aisne valley and then start the Roche À Frêne climb, a steep but regular climb (continuously ascending about 9-10%). If Fays you descend to the foot of the Côte du Vieux-Fourneau climb, a shorter climb with two short steep stretches. At the top you cross the route you came from and descend to Ferrières. A bit further, the climb of Côte de Saint-Roch starts. This climb is not very difficult. From the top you continue to Harzé with a short stretch of minor roads with poor asphalt on the way. You make a short detour around the castle and then continue to Awan and descend to the Amblève valley. You follow the valley for a short while before climbing the steep Chambralles. After the top there is a short descent and ascent to Hoyemont and then a fast descent through Oneux back to the Amblève valley. IN Pont-de-Sçay you cross the Amblève and start the climb of the Côte de Fraiture. This climb is not too difficult. You descend towards Presseux and then on a minor road to the stone quarry Carrière de la Préalle. Here the Côte de Lincé starts, another climb which is not too difficult. From Lincé you descend to Sprimont where the last climb of the day starts: the Côte de Ogné past another quarry. From Ogné you descend to Damré on mediocre asphalt. From here it is only a short stretch back to the start.

Blocked route to Villers Sainte-Gertrude

The cycling route described on Climbfinder (https://climbfinder.com/en/routes/sprimont-rideux-sprimont) descends here. However during my trip the bridge in the valley was blocked. I assume the bridge has been repaired in the mean time...
