Roumont - Ourt along the Ourthe Occidentale and back 96 km

This cycling tour takes you along the Ourthe River from Roumont to to the source of the Ourthe Occidentale and back. The tour includes heaps of generally quiet and hilly scenery with wide views, forests, pasture, wetlands and valleys, and includes a few climbs, but not very strenuous ones. The tour is suited for the racing bike, although near Ourt some minor roads have deteriorated paving. You can find places to eat and drink at only a few places, in Lavacherie, Saint-Ode, in the Laval valley and in Libramont-Chevigny a bit off-route. This tour is part of a series of cycling tours along the Ourthe from its confluence with the Meuse in Liège to the sources of both Ourthes. In Roumount and Ortheuville the route connects to another route along the Ourthe from la Roche (https://nl.wikiloc.com/routes-fietsen/la-roche-ortheuville-engreux-la-roche-along-the-ourthe-96-km-58980159). At the start in Roumont there is a parking near the church.
From the start you leave Roumont slighthly uphill and then descend to Lavacherie in the Ourthe valley. You pass the river and then continue to Sainte-Ode with a nice valley and wetland to your east. You pass the Ourthe again and then continue to the valley of the Laval River. The valley and the river follow a winding course all the way to the village of Laval, with nice wetlands on the last stretch. From Laval you cross the hill to Tillet and then climb to Beauplateau and on to the N848. From here you descend to Remagne in the Ourthe valley, and from here you follow the Ourthe valley on the eastern and southern side through a series of quiet villages with great views across the valley with pasture and woods. Near Ourt you pass one branch of the Ourthe just before its source. You continue to Ourt and then make a circuit across the water divide near Libramont. In Libramont you take a look at the Église Notre-Dame de la Paix et de la Miséricorde, and then cross back across the water divide to Ourt. Between Presseux and Ourt you pass the pré-RAVeL L163. In Ourt you make a circuit around the source of the main branch of the Ourthe. After getting back to Ourt you take a route to Renaumont on the north side of the valley. In Renaumont you cross the Ourthe twice on a short lap from the village and then continue to Bougnimont, a bit away from the Ourthe valley. From there you take and undulating route to the Ourthe near Remagne. Here you follow the Ourthe through the valley to Moircy on a beautiful stretch. In Moircy you leave the valley for a climb to Col de Plastrai, largely through woods. From this col at 549 meters you descend back to the Ourthe valley and follow the river towards Amberloup and then Sainte-Ode. Here you climb a short col on a road west of the valley to Lavacherie. In Lavacherie you follow again the Ourthe valley to Ortheuville. Here you descend towards the river for a picturesque view. There is a short steep climb to the viaduct across the N4 and then you follow the Ourthe valley to Wyompont. Here you climb out of the valley on the climb Le Stockai, a smooth climb largely through woods. Almost at the top, you descend back to the picturesque village of Roumont, where the trip started.
