Itinerary description
Finally we have prepared longer route for those interested in more km's and more different views. You will start in Malaga going through valley behind the city, then climbing to impressive lakes and going along you will be close to Teba. Then following road to Ronda you will turn for ''Serrato'' to enjoy really cool climb to pass ''Puerto del Aire''. Going back via lovely ''El Burgo'' and another pass you will get almost 200 km.
Start is always in city center of Malaga taking the direction to Puerto de la Torre through streets Maldonado/Marmoles/Av. de Carlos Haya. Once you see signs for University/Universidad you turn left but immediately right to go through street Navarro Ledesma straight away to Campanillas through road MA-405 / A-7076.
In Campanillas enter road A-7054 leading through Estacion de Cartama to Pizarra. From Pizarra to Alora take A-343 and on the roundabout turn for proper city Alora. There is a first climb after 40 km of flat ride through valley Hoya de Malaga. On the roundabout in the city turn right to follow MA-444 for El Chorro. It is local road leading to the bottom of vallye to famous gorge Desfiladero de los Gaitanes with famous walk-path through gorge called Camino del Rey actually under reconstruction.
After any picture and observation you can start climbing along rock formations up towards lakes. Still on MA-444 after 6 km you will come to crossroad next to the first big lake called Embalse del Conde del Guadalhorce. Turn right to go to crown of all lakes. Road is undulated and scenery is impressive. There are some bars close to the crown to be refreshed and get relax.
Then you keep for the crown of lake Guadalteba and turn left for Campillos and Teba through MA-451/452. There is a nice climb and later downhill until another crossroad. At that moment follow MA-451 for Teba for 3 km. The surface is a bit destroyed and later turn left for Camping Guadalhorce. When passing this area you will meet main road Ardales-Campillos. Turn right for Campillos for 300 meters and immediately left to follow route to Teba City.
You will go along huge rock formation via C-341 for long time. Coming to Huerta de la Cueva keep straight away for Ronda still on the same road. On the following crossroad follow signs Ronda / Cuevas del Becerro, road will turn out to be A-367. Keep on for any 12 km and then turn for Serrato.
You will go down a bit on MA-478 and then you will see the steep direct road in front of you. This is the first part of journey to pass Puerto del Aire (930 m.a.s.). There is a part close to 14 % of inclination. The you will get ome stairs to finish this hill and once you will reach 20 % for short time. But in generally it is very nice unspoiled countryside. Downhill to El Burgo is fast and exciting. In village there is plenty of bars again.
Last climb from El Burgo to famous pass Puerto de las Abejas (820 m.a.s.) cimbed many times during Vuelta a Espana. Once you reach summit you will have some 15 km to downhill to Alozaina. On the first roundabout take left through A-354 for Casarabonela / Zalea and when being close to Casarabonela turn sharply right for Zalea / Pizarra via same road.
When you come to main road behind Zalea turn left and right for Pizarra and from Pizarra go back Malaga through same road you start you journey, A-7054 / MA-402...
