Itinerary description

Very impressive round trip behind Malaga.

From main square Plaza de la Constitucion take street Calle Cisneros to meet road and turn right. You are on Avenida de Rosaleda/...de Ramon y Cajal street and follow signs for Botanic Garden. After 4 km turn right and then left on the roundabout still following Botanic Garden. Climb a bit and go left under the highway bridge. On the next crossroad turn right for 'presa' and later Casabermeja.

You are out of the city on the road MA-3101 leading along lake Embalse del Agujero to Casabermeja. You will het steady climb with nice views over N.P.Montes de Malaga and the valley of the river Guadalmedina. After 15 km you go through one pass to the other side of this range of mountains to face Almogia and Sierra de las Nieves. The surface is and will be all the time excellent. Before you enter Casabermeja you will get much more impressive views including Sierra Nevada too.

Descending to Casabermeja you go along the city and turn left for Villanueva de la Concepcion and Antequera through MA-3104. There is a lot of views over El Torcal and surroundings. After 8 km you meet A-7075, so go right for Villanueva de la Concepcion. You will get short but strong hill to the center of this village. On the main crossroad turn left for La Joya and Almogia. Next crossroad is any 2 km behind Villanueva..and you have to turn right for La Joya/Nogales.

There starts a worse quality road MA-4402 with some holes and 2 km before La Joya there is no asphalt for 20 meters. But later everything goes well and passing La Joya the surface become lovely again. You will climb to pass between peaks Camorro Alto and Cerro Torrecilla. Amazing! You are on the pass!!! Now descent to crossroad.

Once you are down on A-343 turn left for Valle del Abdalajis/Alora/Malaga. You will observe majestic mountain formation Sierra del Valle del Abdalajis and enjoy super-asphalt untill Alora.

Going along this city you keep on A-343 till Pizarra. Then take road A-7054 direction Estacion de Cartama/Campanillas/Malaga.

Finish on square Plaza de la Constitucion again in any nice pub!!!

Views over Alora

Álora is a municipality in southern Spain which is part of the province of Málaga (Andalusia). Located c. 40 km from Málaga, on the right bank of the river Guadalhorce and on the Córdoba-Málaga high-speed rail line, within the comarca of Valle del Guadalhorce. It is a typical pueblo blanco, a whitewashed village nestled between three rocky spurs topped by the ruins of the castle. Alora's history dates back to prehistoric times in the Hoyo del Conde, a little over a kilometer from the city. The ecological environment (hunting, water, natural protection) favored this presence until the Turdetanis of Tartessos and the Phoenicians discovered the commercial potential of the area. The latter built the foundations of the castle, which the Romans would take advantage of by fortifying it.
