Itinerary description

Route for the racing bike starting in Pietra Ligure. You first follow the coastal road to Borgio Verezzi, and then start the climb to the picturesque town of Verezzi at 275 meters, go down to Gorre at 213 meters and then climb continuously to the Colle di Melogno at 1028 meters. There is a fort here and a restaurant, but not much of a view. On the way to the top there are nice views of hill towns like Magliolo. From the Colle di Melogno you descend to Calizzano at 650 meters. Here, the road slowly ascends to the Giogo di Toirano at 807 meter via the town of Bardineto. Then, the road descends via a series of hairpin bends and with nice views towards Toirano and the coast at Borghetto Santo Spirito. Here, you can follow the coast via Loano back to Pietra Ligure. In Borghetto and Loano the route avoids the main thoroughfare the Via Aurelia as much as possible. In Borghetto, on the small road between the rail road and the beach, there are a lot of pedestrians, so be careful.

Waypoints

Borghetto Santo Spirito

The route in this town follows some small picturesque roads in the old city center where you cannot ride your bike if it is busy. So then either walk or take a different route. The route between the railroad and the coast can be busy with pedestrians, so watch out. If you want to ride faster take the busy Via Aurelia.

This pass at 807 meters is not marked at all, but with clear weather you can see the coast.

Used a 11-25 cassette and chose a route passing through Bardino Vecchio; therefore, avoiding the "strada". That route has 10%+ climbs. I recommend using 11-28 cogs, the scenery after Calizzano is a must! Wonderful route.

Nice route with beautiful landscape. Long climb but approachable. We did coffee stop at Colle Meleto B&B where we got home made raspberry tarts (delicious).
Next time we will try to do it on reverse way just to taste the climb from Toirano side.
    Thanks for good suggestion.

Thanks, mmascheroni, for your review. Glad you liked the trip. The climb from Toirano with all the hairpins must be nice!
