Waypoints
Famous Squaw Valley ski resort is being renamed Palisades
Trail head is at Olympic Valley Park (101 Squaw Valley Rd) has lots of free parking, brick pit toilets, and pickle ball courts. The park is right behind the big Olympic sign, entrance is just a few hundred feet from Hwy 89.
Historic dam that controls Tahoe water storage
Mini museum area, lots of information plaques. Windows showing the gate mechanics. Year 2021 was a second year of severe drought. Tahoe water level on this day was almost even with the natural rim, so just a trickle is flowing out.
UC Davis turnaround point.
The climb from here up to Dollar Point is pretty steep. Nothing really to see at Dollar Point anyways, so turn around if you don't want the exercise.
Marina and Commons Beach Area
Lots of nice scenery along the shore. Some restaurants here have outdoor decks overlooking the lake and marina. Commons Beach has flush restrooms.
Bridgetender Restaurant
Lots of attractive patio outdoor dining along the river and bike path.
West shore trail going south
this bike path continues south all the way to Tahoma and Sugar Pine Point State Park. A short section of the path is right on the shoreline, with a few picnic tables and and actual flush restroom.
Bear at the bicycle bridge!
This bear is walking across the bike path right at the bicycle bridge in Tahoe City. Possibly because of the extended drought, venturing into town searching for food. Not tame, keep your distance please. The transit center is part of this park, and has flush restrooms.
No rapids this year
Drought makes the Truckee River more like a little stream. Still very lovely to see. Usually this section has rushing white water.
