Itinerary description

Whew Mission Accomplished. So in life there are some things in your bucket list that lingers or quite a while. For amateur or part time cyclist like myself, completing 100 miles in a day remains an Everest. Blame "youtube" on this one. So with less than a month after doing a 58 miles test run, I went for it. The first 55 miles was simple enough. Getting back was 80 % mental with the last 15 miles 95 %. Doing it in less than 10 hours including stops was my goal. Hats off to professional cyclist with their "iron butts". The route is a very scenic cross-country tour. To try and beat the projected hot weather, I started at 5.00 am. As there are no cycling route in T&T, as a cyclist you have to compete with vehicular traffic. This route was mostly not too busy. The scenery starts at Gran- Couva with it's gently rolling hills. From there it's then to Tabaquite Junction. A left turn carries you thru to Rio Claro. On the Rio Stretch there are a lot of heavy trucks along to Mayaro. Along the way I topped up on Gatorade and water at Rio Claro and Mayaro. I took a half an hour break at Mayaro after reaching just after 4 hours. The return trip saw me taking another break at a shed along the way. That stop was to rest my posterior and not my legs. I really need to get a Brooks Saddle now. The return leg became a battle due to the hot weather that day. All in all maybe a circuit tour around Trinidad is worth looking at, with a couple overnight stops.
