Itinerary description

Classic Dorset rolling chalk downlands up to the highest point in Dorset via Milton Abbey/Abbas.
A few steep climbs, a few miles on main road but mostly very quiet Dorset highhedgerowed roads. Not much traffic at all.
Just 1km on a track leading to Milton Abbey but you get there by going instead along the road.
Take care on main road leading out of Dorch (2mls) till you come off that main road at Yellowham road to be on the old road. Also take care on main road leading out of Puddletown to Milborne St. Andrew. Winding twisting rolling road,
can be busy with traffic sometimess passing when it shouldn't. You cld avoid this by taking instead a slightly longer route to Milton Abbey via Cheselborne but that's the way I came back.
You also need to be *very* careful at the roundabout coming onto main road from Kingston Maurward. If you have children you shouldnt do this and instead take the back track route from Stinsford along the water meadows - take care if on a road bike.- but very doable.
HIGHLIGHTS: Milton Abbas/Abbey, Bulbarrow
FEATURES: sleepy Dorset villages, high Dorset rolling chalk downland, views, Yellowham hill, Kingston Maurward, Puddletown Forest, Frome Valley
EAT/DRINK:
cafe at Milton Abbey School - if it's open - depends on term time. Otherwise a few places in Milton Abbas including the Hambro Arms pub. Good cream teas. Food not cheap.
Pub in Milborne supposed to be good and Fox at Ansty is a nice place. Reasonable prices. The Riverside Arms in Cheselborne has some good reviews and is reasonable.
In Puddletown you have the Blue Vinney.

ROUTE:
DCH > Puddletown> Milborne>Milton Abbey> Milton Abbas > Bullbarrow > Ansty > Melcombe Bingham> Cheselborne > Puddletown > Puddletown Forest > Tincleton > Bockhampton > Kingston Maurward.
