Itinerary description
Biking route just south from Amsterdam. From Mijdrecht towards Ouderkerk a/d Amstel and back, following de 'Ronde Hoep'. Ronde Hoep is a polder, one of the most beautiful, almost unspoiled polders of Amstelland. From 1637 to 1913 this polder was kept dry by windmills.
Nowadays this is done by an electric water pump station.
The route follows part of the Amstel and then the Waver, two rivers. So another example of the beautiful 'groene hart' of the Randstad.
At the Waver there is a restaurant open for a coffee break or lunch. It is called De Voetangel. Unfortunately closed on Sunday and Monday. Other spots are to be found in Ouderkerk a/d Amstel.
