Itinerary description
Starts beside Loch Leven ESE of Kinross at large Kirkgate Car Park. Enter circular Loch trail at east end, near old cemetary. Option of circumnavigating Loch only on shared path (stone-dust surface, many walkers, 12 miles) or branching off into foothills of West and East Lomond and following minor and some trafficked roads to Falkland (shops, palace and cafes). Route shown heads away from Loch trail on NCN1 towards Leven's Larder (cafe) and Balgedie Toll (pub), past former Glenlomond Hospital, thence to Strathmiglo and through Falkland village and Estate to quirky Pillars of Hercules cafe set in woodland clearing and selling organic produce as well as meals. Views of Bishop and Benarty Hills and the Lomonds. Returns to traffic-free Loch Leven trail via Balgedie Toll, then clockwise around Loch Leven past Scottish Gliding Centre (cafe open to public), Vane Farm Nature Reserve (cafe) to start near Kinross (cafes and shops). Bird-watching hides at intervals on Loch side accessible from path. 23-OCT-14
