Itinerary description
Cycling route along Athens' longest dedicated bicycle-lane (Ποδηλατόδρομος). Starting from Keramikos Metro Station, getting on the bike track itself by the Poulopoulou Bridge after the Gazi Technopolis, passing through the Athenian neighborhood of Petralona, the suburbs of Tavros and Moschato, and ending by the sea at the Tae-Kwon-Do Stadium and the newly (2017) inaugurated and very popular Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center.
Generally the route runs parallel to the tracks of Metro Line 1, then by the (ancient, currently underground) stream of Kalliroe and the Iridanos River to the Saronikos waterfront.
It can be very crowded on weekends and holidays, not only with cyclists but also with people jogging, people walking their dogs, people just strolling, families with strollers, skaters.
At the end of the route, there are more biking options:
A.: Follow route "Faliro - Bicycle-lane to Gazi - Keramikos Metro" for a loop tour. This route follows the official track exactly, and therefore varies a little.
B.: Explore the trails in the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center gardens (free).
C.: Continue riding to Flisvos, Alimos and further south along the coastal trails.
D.: Continue riding along the waterfront from Faliro to the Peace-and-Friendship Stadium (ΣΕΦ), Mikrolimano, Marina Zeas, etc.
E.: Commuters might also chose to take the tram from the stops on Posidonos Ave., or the metro at one of the stations on the route (Keramikos, Pertalona, Tavros, Kallithea) or close to the route (Faliro, Thissio). Bicycles are allowed at no extra cost (rules apply).
Route researched on Sunday March 5th 2017.
