Itinerary description
Now one thing that you have to say about Denmark is that it is set up for cycling. Nice and flat, excellent networks of cycleways - perfect!
I borrowed a bike for this ride, you can also hire them at the nature centre (when it is open). This was just gentle riding, although you will meet the serious high speed riders as well.
I was advised that the best direction to ride this circuit is so that the wind is behind you on the coastal section. On the day this meant that I was riding anti-clockwise - which means that you are on the right hand side of the cycleway. This all looks great until you reach the coastal path itself and then you find that you are on the outside edge of the path, with a 45 degree slope to the rocks and water - please check the photo!
This isn't really a problem until you meant two Danes coming the opposite way who are riding side-by-side and don't change position. If you are an uncertain rider then I would suggest going clockwise, regardless of the wind, so that you are on the inside of the path!
The area is a huge nature reserve with bird watching huts, full of people with huge telescopes etc, they also get there by bicycle, so you meet them on a bicycle laden with equipment.
