Itinerary description
This track is centered at the main Skytrain station at Kaifaqu. It goes east of Kaifaqu, passing the Wanda Plaza Shopping and IMAX, and joining to the East Greenway Track. It also covers the segment west of the Kaifaqu Main Skytrain Station along dedicated bike lanes through downtown Kaifaqu and along the harbour front.
Waypoints
Easternmost Bike Station on this track
A high street of shops and restaurants here, and a new mall with a KFC.
Bike station, main roads intersection
Care must sometimes be used in crossing major streets; if unsure -wait for correct street light signals, -then don't assume drivers will acknowledge your rights according to those signals, -if still unsure, watch the traffic flow patterns a while before starting out, -consider going together with a group of more experienced street crossers, dismounted
Bike station, Skytrain Station
Bike station
Bike station
Wanda Plaza
A large new fashion mall with IMAX, grocery store, fitness complex, and a popular restaurant floor.
Bike station
Bike station
Bicycle Pass Purchase kiosk and Bike station.
Near the Main Kaifaqu Skytrain Station. The kiosk (see photo) is generally open to arrange the bike cards, and some Mandarin speaking skill is probably needed to do this. If closed in winter, the Green-way office handles bike cards, its one bike station to the east and just south of the Skytrain route.
Downtown Kaifaqu bicycle Path
The path crosses a busy intersection in front of the Bank of China headquarters building (clear traffic signals are usually obeyed here). there are bicycle paths on both sided going south towards the harbour. I found the east side was much easier to navigate, with less improperly parked car obstacles, and fewer pedestrian groups blocking in the bike lane. Make sure to have a bike with a good bell or ringer for this segment.
Spa, sauna
There are plenty of foot massage studios, spas and saunas along this part of the path. Its near the more exclusive expatriate residential areas of Kaifaqu.
Bicycle station
This is the south end of the busy streets, and the greeway goes through a short forest segment before joining a wide avenue with broad shoulders that leads to the waterfront promenade.
Cross Canal
This canal reverses with the tides and connects with a salt lagoon to the north, in the middle of a large high-rise residential development.
Waterfront Promenade East end
A wide promenade with paving stones, and adjacent forest park along its inland side. Both offer interesting bike experiences.
Views of the Kaifaqu Harbour and shipping activity
Part of the larger Dalian Port complex, one of the busiest in China.
