Itinerary description

County Donegal/Derry ROAD

A challenging tour of the Inishowen Peninsula.

AS well as appealing to riders looking for a really challenging day in the saddle this route will be of interest to cyclists who want to travel at a more leisurely pace. Tackling the route over a weekend will leave plenty of time to check out the many sights along the way.

Every summer a popular sportive called the Inishowen 100 follows this route. There is also a signposted drive of the same name that takes a slightly different route.

The route is described in a clockwise direction in the hope that the prevailing wind will help on the first half, i't also leaves you with an easy finish as the last 30km are pretty flat.

There are two notable climbs — Mamore Gap and Kinnagoe Bay - as well as plenty of smaller hills.

REFRESHMENTS

There are plenty of towns and villages along the route. Derry also has a wide range of accommodation and services.

VARIATIONS The 48km loop around Malin Head would be worthwhile as a ride in itself. Starting and finishing in Culdaff and looping around the coastline before returning via Malin village.
