Itinerary description
Cycle Route 179, called the Heron Trail, around the Hoo Peninsula in Kent, via Lower Higham, Cliffe, Cooling, High Halstow, Hoo and Chattenden.
Nice 25 km-long circular route, correctly signposted, completely flat, most of it on road, with a small section traffic-free, all of it perfectly suitable for road bikes. Anyway, better not to do it on windy days (or at least not too windy), as the area is very exposed, with no natural protection against the wind.
National Cycle Route 1 was used to close the loop and return from Chattenden to the starting point, Lower Higham, near Higham train station.
Route 1 may take you as well from Lower Higham to Gravesend, heading West, or from Chattenden to Rochester, heading South.
