Itinerary description

Beginning on Cemetary road access to the Hawea River Trail and heading towards Wanaka. Cross the Swing Bridge and through the campground to then cross on the 1 way car bridge over Clutha River. Turning right immediately after the bridge to follow the Clutha to its mouth at Lake Wanaka. Follow the waterfront trail all around the peninsula into downtown Wanaka. We then took an inelegant route across Wanaka which I would not recommend to get to back to the 1 way bridge to return along the Hawea River Trail into a formidable headwind. Fabulous scenery all along both rivers but be careful on the path around the peninsula to Wanaka as the Trail narrows and there are many people walking, cycling with kids and dogs etc. Go slow!!
