The Amber Greenways Trail is an international route leading through Poland, Slovakia and Hungary through the footsteps of an ancient route transporting amber from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic. The first route was passed by the Celts, but the route flourished during the Roman Empire.
Today, traveling the Amber Route, you can admire the well-known historical cities and many buildings on the UNESCO World Heritage List (including Budapest, Banska Stiavnica, Kraków) and picturesque rural areas with high natural and cultural values. The trail starts in Hungary, leading through the Danube valleys and the Ipel river, where the historic cities of Szentendre, Vac and Nagymaros deserve attention. Further, the route leads through a diverse landscape on the Hungarian-Slovak border, with traditional brick construction and characteristic, large gates guarding colorful, vine-covered cottages. Finally, the route reaches traditional Carpathian villages with wooden buildings such as Podbiel, Kvacany, Zubrzyca Wielka, Lanckorona in the areas of northern Slovakia and southern Poland. The Amber Route connects people and places with rich and diverse cultural traditions, handicrafts and culinary traditions.
