Itinerary description
Very lovely route mostly along the Frome Valley Cycle Route - mostly flat, a few rolling hills. Bridleways and some tracks, but easily doable on a road bike. Very little traffic , if any on the route following the cycle trail along the valley, interesting Dorset villages, Manor Houses, beautiful countryside, ancient field systems etc. Good stop at the Saxon arms pub in Stratton.
Route:
Exiting Dorchester from close to Top'O Town and then following the road that passes the Iron Age Poundbury Hill fort, then down into the Frome Valley and Braford Peverill, Muckleford, Frampton, through some nature reserves, Notton, Cruxton, then left at junction close to Maiden Newton and onto Wynford Eagle with very interesting Manor House and Church with Norman Tympanum. Celtic/ Medieval field systems. Back into Maiden Newton and following the main road back along the Frome Valley for a quick stop off in Stratton for a nice drink at the Saxon Arms.
