Itinerary description

A casual ride along the shoreline of Lake Erie. While we have always lived close by, this is an area of the province that neither Maxini or I have spent any time in. We took a beautiful summer day to ride our bikes along a path from the town of Simcoe to a very small winery just before Dunnville.

Stopped numerous times, had lunch at a nice cafe in Selkirk (the town, not the park). If you are interested in making better time, a pedestrian bridge is available at the foot of Erie Street that joins Blue Water Parkway to Lakeshore Road (saves about 2.5 km).

The route is mostly done on lightly traveled road, with an easy riding railway trail at the beginning (from Simcoe to Port Dover) and a tough gravel section to get to the winery. I would recommend continuing on to Dunnville where there are more options for food and beverage. We brought water and some snacks and there are quite a few places along the way where you can replenish. Signage was spotty on the road portion of the trail.

We really enjoyed our day, saw some wildlife (including a red deer) shared the road with a lot of bikers and visited places we heard of but had never seen.

Part of the railway portion of the trail that runs from Simcoe to Port Dover. Very nice section that winds along side a river and has great bridges along the way.
