Itinerary description

Follow NCN 765 over the Faery bridge and up Wallace Road, right past the High School to the footbridge over the A9. You are now on the old route from Doune, and where the Earl of Albany, Murdoch was captured, tried for treason and hung, drawn and quartered, when James returned to his throne in Scotland. Carry along for a mile or so and take the signed path right going down the hill to cross the main road. Take the left fork then watch for the gate on the right to join the old railway path to Doune. Past the allotments turn left into Moray Park, Queen St and over the main road to dramatic Doune castle, also made famous by Monty Python, Game of Thrones and Outlander.
Buttercup cafe offers great food and you can sit out the back, or Willows Dell is by the Cross. An option to rejoining the railway path is the rural road, and then turn left before reaching the main road to the crossroads/Kilbryde chapel, then right back to the main road into Dunblane at Stockbridge nursery - the pavement is a good option here.
