Itinerary description

Robert Louis Stevenson came to Bridge of Allan as a new spa town for his health and was influenced by local history in his stories. TS Smith at Glassingall near Kinbuck was David Balfour and the House of Shaws in "Kidnapped". The battle of Sheriffmuir was an important Jacobite rebellion, a factor in the Appin Murder, featured in the book. "Stevenson's cave" near Bridge of Allan, inspired Ben Gunns cave in Treasure island. His grandfather built the new bridge beside the old brig in Stirling. This scenic ride follows in some of his footsteps.
